AFC Bournemouth
- Saturday 30/07/05
A disappointing
pre-season campaign saw Brighton take hammerings at both Oxford
and Colchester. However, with the promise of a sandy beach,
the Crocs on Tour decided to make Bournemouth their first
outing of the season, as they travelled to the Fitness First
Stadium, looking to see an Albion victory. |

|
 |
Mode
of Transport:
The first match we had taken via the Witham Mobile,
as Tom drove impeccably to Bournemouth. |
 |
Team:
A 4-4-2 line up of: Martin, Dodd, Ashby, Butters,
Mayo, Reid, Carpenter, Oatway, Hammond, McCammon,
McPhee. |
 |
Kit:
Bournemouth chose to wear their traditional home
colours of red shirts, black shorts and black
stockings, while Brighton also wore their home
kit of light blue and white stripes, white shorts
and white stockings |
 |
Mark
McGhee's Attire:
The pre-season weather meant Mark went for the
classic look of white shirt, no tie, black trousers
and black shoes. |
 |
Weather:
A clear day, but extremely chilly inside the stadium
for the time of year the match was played in. |
 |
Stadium
Rating:
The Fitness First Stadium is a modern arena that
was built on the site of the old Dean Court ground.
However, it is only complete on 3 sides, and a
new "Withdean" stand is being installed
at the end with nothing at the minute. The gaps
mean it gets cold inside, and it does lack character.
Also, the fact that its name encourages exercise
means it loses marks. 6/10 |
 |
Food
Rating:
The hotdogs tasted distinctly of rubber, possibly
that of a bike tire. However, the superb pies
made up for the disappointment of the sausage.
6/10 |
 |
Entertainment:
A fine set of cheerleaders were on offer before
the game, which was particularly exciting. A man
outside, dressed as a woman and wearing a big
clown wig was selling draw tickets and programmes,
and he was certainly entertaining. 9/10 |
 |
Friendliness
of Locals:
Extremely friendly. The man on the turnstile informed
us that we had to buy tickets from the ticket
office before the game, and then showed us where
to go. He obviously saw the builds of the Crocs
on Tour team as well, as he said "Best to
go that way lads, goes past a burger van".
7/10 |
 |
Standard
of Local Females:
Extremely high. Not only did we see a fine array
of attractive females in the town, but there were
also several around the stadium, most notably
the cheerleaders, who we got 'up close to' when
waiting outside. 8/10 |
 |
Steward
Rating:
Absolutely superb. One steward
was fantastic, as he told a baby of no more than
6 months old "If you go on the pitch I will
have to eject you, so watch it". He was simply
wonderful, and it was a joy to be told where to
be sat by him. 9/10 |
 |
Flag
Attention:
No flag was present again, a situation that we
hope to address by the Hull game. |
 |
Match
Report:
Brighton warmed up for the big kick off away at
Derby next week with a 2-1 win. Although less
than convincing, it was certainly more convincing
than the pre-season games previously, 5-2 and
4-1 defeats to Colchester and Oxford. Charlie
Oatway opened the scoring, and Dean Hammond headed
home the second, before the Cherries pulled back
a consolation through a free-kick late on in the
game. A good work out in the end for the Seagulls |
 |
Thought
of the Day:
As the cheerleaders began doing their routine,
we pondered upon how much the rather fat one in
the middle could fit inside her. |
