Bristol Rovers - Tuesday 21/04/09

Somehow, Brighton have a very real chance of survival. Their penultimate away game of the season was the re-arranged trip to Bristol Rovers, a game in hand on those sides above them. With the hosts having nothing to play for, and the Seagulls having won their last two games, the visiting supporters were hopefull. Could the Albion make it three league wins a row for the first time this season, and with it lift themselves out of the relegation zone with only two games remaining

Mode of Transport:
McCarthy was behind the wheel for a quick jaunt down the M5 from Cheltenham to Bristol.
Team:
Big Russ went with 4-4-2 once again, with the following players: Kuipers, Hinshelwood, Elphick, Virgo, Borrowdale; Loft, Fraser, Dicker, Cox; Hart, Owusu
Kit:
Bristol Rovers wore their home kits of blue and white quartered shirts, white shorts and blue socks. Brighton were in their away kits of yellow and navy striped shirts, navy socks and navy socks. Michel Kuipers wore his red shirt with black and white trim, along with black shorts and black socks.
Russell Slade's Attire:
Mr Slade wore his normal tracksuit combined with a delightful training jacket, and his standard issue baseball cap.
Weather:
An extremely sunny day lead McCarthy to bust out the shorts and flip flops for the day, which ultimately proved to be a mistake as the temperature dropped somewhat in the evening.
Stadium Rating:
The Memorial Stadium was supposed to have been knocked down after our visit at the end of last season, but it has managed to remain for this year. A terrace along one side of the ground hosts the away fans, with a seated structure built above it covering a third of the pitch. A large, covered terrace is situated behind one goal, with a strange structure along the other side, with terracing at the front, seating at the back and executive boxes overhanging, and a set of temporary seated structures behind the remaining goal. 7/10
Food Rating:
A distinct lack of hot dogs, and the food that McCarthy and Potter consumed unfortunately gave them severe problems in the bowel department for the following 24 hours. 1/10
Entertainment:
None on offer. 0/10
Friendliness of Locals:
Situated in a rather pikie area of Bristol, we once again tried not to engage with the locals as much as was possible. 5/10
Standard of Local Females:
A lot of extremely fit females seen enjoying the sunshine around the stadium, but none were spotted inside the Memorial. 8/10
Steward Rating:
Extremely friendly, no problems were encountered, with a good few number of Slades thrown in for good measure
Flag Attention:
The new Crocs Welsh flag was not taken to todays game.
Match Report:
Despite going a goal down to a Ricky Lambert strike, Brighton made it three wins a row to move out of the relegation zone for the first time since Valentines Day. A first half strike from Lloyd Owusu drew the game level, before on-loan Crystal Palace striker Calvin Andrew grabbed a winner to leave the Albion hanging on for a nervous last 35 minutes to secure a massive three points.
Thought of the Day:
Could the survival bid be scuppered by Gary Hart failing a drugs test for being topped up with steroids?
