Eastbourne
Borough - Monday 04/05/09
The
traditional end of season curtain faller for Sussex football
is the Sussex Senior Cup Final. Contested between sides in
Sussex from County League Division Two upwards, this years
final was between reigning champions, Brighton and Hove Albion
reserves side, and Blue Square Premier team Eastbourne Borough.
Sensing the opportunity to spend a Bank Holiday Monday at
Priory Lane, home of Borough, consume a decent amount of alcohol
and ultimately to steal a picture with Russell Slade, it was
decided this would be a fine way to end the Crocs on Tour
season. |

Mode
of Transport:
The train was used for the short journey from
Mid Sussex to Eastbourne, before a taxi from the
town centre to the stadium. |
 |
Team:
Reserve team manager Bob Booker decided to use
this years youth team for the tie, naming a 4-4-2
formation of: Walker, Cook, Pearson, Rowe, Smith;
Royce, Ide, Wills, Brinkhurst; Louis, Upton. |
 |
Kit:
Eastbourne Borough wore their home uniforms, consisting
of red shirts with black trim, black shorts and
black socks. The Albion were in their home kits
of blue and white striped shirts, white shorts
and white socks, while Mitch Walker appeared in
the green goalkeepers jersey with black and white
trim, black shorts and black socks. |
 |
Russell
Slade's Attire:
Mr Slade was watching from the comfort of the
main stand, and was in a delightful shirt and
tie combo, completed with club raincoat in order
to keep him warm and dry. |
 |
Weather:
A blustery day in Eastbourne, with spots of light
drizzle also coming down at times. |
 |
Stadium
Rating:
Priory Lane has come a long way from the County
League ground that it was at the start of this
decade. A small, covered terrace stretches down
one side and around behind the goal, while a small,
seated main stand runs for three quarters of the
other side of the pitch. Behind the other goal
is another covered terrace. A supporters bar is
also on offer. 6/10 |
 |
Food
Rating:
The hotdogs were not of the lubricated penis variety,
and this made a refreshing change. They were,
as is expected from non league grounds, delightful.
8/10 |
 |
Entertainment:
Nothing on offer. 0/10 |
 |
Friendliness
of Locals:
Being a match between two Sussex teams, the locals
were as expected extremely friendly, if not a
little elderly. 8/10 |
 |
Standard
of Local Females:
Lots of attractive women were spotted in and around
the stadium, with the added bonus that some didn't
even have bus passes. Special mention to one of
the girls serving in the burger kiosk, as she
was stunning. 7/10 |
 |
Steward
Rating:
The stewards there were friendly
and helpful. 8/10 |
 |
Flag
Attention:
The new Crocs Welsh flag was not taken to todays
game, as it was deemed that a Welsh flag at a
reserve team game would have been a little silly. |
 |
Match
Report:
A dull Sussex Senior Cup Final in poor conditions
was settled with an extra time goal from Nathan
Crabb to ensure that the trophy was in the hands
of new winners as Eastbourne Borough took a 1-0
victory. In difficult conditions, both sides created
little chances, with both Mitch Walker and Lee
Hook pulling off good saves on the rare occasions
they were called upon to keep their sides in it,
before a headed winner in extra time saw Borough
claim the coverted trophy. |

Thought
of the Day:
After losing his mobile while drunk celebrating
League One survival on Saturday night, McCarthy
had borrowed his mothers for the day. Potter commented
"I'd love it if you now managed to lose your
Mum's phone", and only minutes later it transpired
that McCarthy had infact lost it by leaving it
on the train. Luckily, a woman had rescued it
to ensure it was not a case of two mobiles lost
in the space of 48 hours. |
