Hartlepool
United - Saturday 25/10/08
For
the first time in four years, the original Crocs line-up were
reunited for an entire weekend. With Tom Stewart now a resident
of Newcastle, McCarthy and Witham made the long journey north
on the Friday to stay on Tyneside, where the Phillipe Albert
themed evening was held. Exactly four years on from the original
themed evening, that of George McCartney before Sunderland
away, this particular one involved a night out in Newcastle,
followed by a ground tour of St James Park, and then onto
the less glamorous and a lot windier Victoria Park, where
we would hope to see Brighton turn their season around with
a first win since August |

Mode
of Transport:
McCarthy left Cheltenham at 6.35am via a Megabus
to London. Witham left Brighton at around 8am
via train to London, where the rendezvous point
was. From here, it was a train from Kings Cross
to Newcastle. Hartlepool was reached via train,
consisting of a total of two carriages. |
 |
Team:
Micky selected the following in a 4-5-1 formation:
Kuipers, Whing, Elphick, Hawkins, Richards; Anyinsah,
El-Abd, Savage, Thomson, McLeod; Virgo |
 |
Kit:
Hartlepool appeared in their home kits of white
shirts, blue shorts and white socks. Brighton
were in their away uniforms consisting of yellow
and navy shirts, navy shorts and navy socks. Michel
went for his dashing red, black and white goalkeepers
jersey, with black shorts and stockings |

Micky
Adams Attire:
Mr Adams wore his standard issue tracksuit, coupled
with training jacket to the chilling wind |
 |
Weather:
Very cold. |
 |
Stadium
Rating:
Standard bottom tier ground. A small, seated main
stand is sat opposite a larger, two tiered classic
effort with standing at the front and seating
at the back. Behind one goal is a small terrace,
while the away end is a small seated stand that
is raised above pitch level. 6/10 |
 |
Food
Rating:
The famous 'hotdog that is bigger than your head'
was still on offer, for £3. 10/10 |
 |
Entertainment:
Nothing on offer. 0/10 |
 |
Friendliness
of Locals:
A few pleasant chaps in the pub we ended up in,
including one who offered to buy the contingent
a round, although this may have been due to the
fact Sunderland had just beaten Newcastle. 7/10 |
 |
Standard
of Local Females
Poor - Hartlepool would be an excellent place
to pull a pig though. 2/10 |
 |
Steward
Rating:
A few half hearted attempts
to make fans sit down, generally good. 7/10 |
 |
Flag
Attention:
We were unable to gauge the attention of the flag
as it is currently in Nottingham. Somewhere. |
 |
Match
Report:
Another lackluster away display from Brighton,
who slipped to a 1-0 defeat in the North East.
Kevin Kyle grabbed the only goal of the game for
Hartlepool, as the Seagulls once again failed
to deal with a ball into the box, and with centre
back Adam Virgo playing as a lone striker, they
lacked the cutting edge to put an end to the long
winless streak and start moving away from the
bottom of the table. |

Thought
of the Day:
Have you ever got the urge to kick a small child
while walking along, just to see if you could
get enough power to knock the child into the air |
