Hereford United - Tuesday 07/04/09

There is a lot of history between Hereford and Brighton. Back in 1997, relegation to the Conference came down to the last game of the season at Edgar Street, with the Seagulls needing a point to survive and Hereford needing all three. A Robbie Reinelt equaliser with 15 minutes remaining was enough to see Brighton survive on goal difference, condemning the Bulls to a nine year period out of the football league. This was the first league meeting between the teams at Edgar Street since that day, and victory for the visitors would almost certainly see Hereford relegated back to League Two, while defeat would prove very hard to come back from in the bid to escape the drop

Mode of Transport:
Jenkins was in charge of transport today as he lead the trip in the Jenkins Mobile.
Team:
It was a 4-4-2 diamond formation selected by Mr Potato Head, made up of: Kuipers, Whing, Heath, Virgo, Borrowdale; Birchall, Fraser, Dicker, Cox; Davies, Owusu.
Kit:
Hereford appeared in their home kit consisting of white shirts, black shorts and white socks. Brighton wore their alternative kits of sky blue shirts, shorts and socks, while Michel Kuipers wore his red jersey with black and white trim, black shorts and black socks.
Russell Slade's Attire:
Mr Slade appeared in training jumper, tracksuit trousers and baseball cap.
Weather:
Warm throughout the day, with a little bit of a chill descending as evening kicked in.
Stadium Rating:
Edgar Street is an old style lower league stadium. A main stand is raised above the pitch thanks to some brick lounges being built underneath. Behind both goals are low terraces that are set a fair way back from the pitch thanks to a flat concrete area leading up to the running track, while a small double decker stand completes the ground on the touchline, consisting of seats at the top and terrace at the point. Special note towards the flair floodlights, easily the best in the league. 5/10.
Food Rating:
Rollover hotdogs were of the lubricated penis variety, and where simply delightful.
Entertainment:
A half time competition was put on, but unfortunately there was a lack of bull being walked around the pitch. 3/10
Friendliness of Locals:
Given the fact that the crowd was a disapointing 2033, we encountered very few locals which was probably just as well due to the reported contempt they hold since the Albion relegated them into non-league. 5/10
Standard of Local Females:
An under 18 disco taking place just up the road from the ground ensured there was a fair amount of talent, even though there was a strong chance it could have been underage. 7/10
Steward Rating:
Very friendly in directing people into the stadium and no issues experienced inside. 8/10
Flag Attention:
The new Crocs Welsh flag was not taken to todays game.
Match Report:
Brighton gave their fans a glimmer of hope in the quest to avoid relegation with a 2-1 victory away at Hereford. Tommy Fraser gave the visitors the lead with a well executed overhead kick, before Lloyd Owusu added another in the second period. Hereford pulled one back with a rebound from a penalty that was originally saved by Michel Kuipers, but the Seagulls held on to claim a vital three points.
Thought of the Day:
Are football warm up exercises, including opening and closing the gate, ever acceptable as dance moves when out on the town?
