Northampton Town - Saturday 27/09/08

A poor run of league form that hadn't seen a win in over a month was all but forgotten following Wednesdays shock Carling Cup victory, as little Brighton and their athletics track defeated the richest sporting team in the world on penalties to move into the third round for the first time since 1994. It was back to earth with a bang though, as Northampton away was a chance to get the league campaign back on track. With a bowling alley on location at Sixfields, it was a fine day to combine two of the best ball games around, soccer and ten pin bowling!

Mode of Transport:
McCarthy rendezvoused Witham and Upton in Oxford, and made the journey to Northampton in the Witham Mobile from there. The fact we were able to stay in Oxford also allowed for an evening out in the fine city afterwards.
Team:
Micky went with what appeared to be a 4-3-3 formation consisting of: Kuipers, Whing, Elphick, Hawkins, Richards; Fraser, El-Abd, Livermore; Virgo, Murray, Anyinsah.
Kit:
Northampton wore their home uniforms, consisting of claret shirts with yellow trim, white shorts and white socks. Brighton wore their home jerseys of blue and white stripes, coupled with alternative shorts and stocking of blue. Michel Kuipers went with the option of a yellow goalkeepers jersey with black and white trim, black shorts and black socks.
Micky Adams Attire:
Mr Adams was present in a blue training jumper combined with tracksuit trousers.
Weather:
A fine end-of-September day in Northampton, warm and sunny.
Stadium Rating:
Regulation 1990's built stadium consisting of three small stands and one large main one along the side of the pitch. 7/10
Food Rating:
No food was sampled in the arena due to queuing length - suggesting consumers were happy with the products
Entertainment:
A small sides game involving some children was a nice touch. 7/10
Friendliness of Locals:
No local fans were engaged with, although one helpfully directed us from a home-fans only pub to the bar in the bowling alley. 7/10
Standard of Local Females
Northampton appeared to be deprived of local females, bar a few examples of jail bait that were enjoying the bowling alley. The Albion end there had an unusually large amount of talent in it. 7/10
Steward Rating:
Fans were allowed to stand, and one female steward even had delightfully platted hair. 8/10
Flag Attention:
We were unable to gauge the attention of the flag as it is currently in Nottingham. Somewhere.
Match Report:
Any hopes that Wednesday's Carling Cup win over the richest club in the world would help re-ignite the Seagulls season was blown out of the window when a mistake from Michel Kuipers in the 95th minute saw Northampton grab a point with a 2-2 draw. Glen Murray had twice fired Brighton ahead - lastly in the 93rd minute - before seeing Adebayo Akinfenwa grab an even later equaliser to leave the Seagulls still searching for their first league victory since August.
Thought of the Day:
Would any woman believe a chat-up line based around the fabrication of the Crocs being astronauts?
