Shrewsbury Town - Tuesday 16/12/08

The Johnstone Paint Trophy has taken on extra significant for the Albion already this season thanks to the shocking league form. A trip to Wembley for the final in April could be the only bright spot, so it was an important game as the Seagulls made their first ever trip to the Pro Star Stadium. Despite facing opposition from a league below, only 6 league places separate Brighton and Shrewsbury, so a tough game was expected live on Sky. Apologies for lack of images, this was down to McCarthy concentrating on spreading his chronic flu to the rest of the car as opposed to photography.

Mode of Transport:
Al Ienkins was at the wheel for this trip, as he lead the car into deepest darkest Shropshire
Team:
Micky selected a 4-5-1 line up of: Sullivan, Whing, Elphick, Hawkins, Richards; Cox, Thornton, Virgo, El-Abd, McLeod; Forster
Kit:
Shrewsbury wore their home kits of blue shirts with orange trim, blue shorts and blue socks. Brighton wore forced into a special one-off fourth kit due to the incredible pre-season foresight of making each of the clubs three kits a different blue, which consisted of a white shirt with the home shorts and stockings of all white. John Sullivan appeared in a green jersey with black and white trim, black shorts and black socks.
Micky Adams Attire:
Mr Adams was visible in standard issue training jacket and trousers, alongside a classic pair of white trainers.
Weather:
Cold with a little drizzle at times.
Stadium Rating:
The Pro Star Stadium is your typical new ground consisting of four reasonably sized and identical stands. 7/10
Food Rating:
A superb variety of food on offer, including cottage pies and baguettes. A nice change from the norm. 8/10
Entertainment:
Some form of shooting games for fans at half time was played. 5/10
Friendliness of Locals:
Those we came across both in the pub and on our journey back to the car after the game were charming people. 8/10
Standard of Local Females:
A distinct lack of females were seen in and around the stadium, although one fit female was spotted in a local laundrette, whom Rumble deemed suitable to phone up after acquiring the phone number from a shop window. 6/10
Steward Rating:
Friendly and allowed fans to enjoy the game without the usual Nazi-enforcement. 8/10
Flag Attention:
We were unable to gauge the attention of the flag as it is currently in Nottingham. Somewhere.
Match Report:
Brighton moved within two games of Wembley thanks to a penalty shoot out win over Shrewsbury in the Southern Section Semi-Finals of the Johnstone Paint Trophy. A dull 0-0 draw would have had those watching on Sky Sports reaching for their remotes, but a 100% spot kick record and a save from John Sullivan from the Shrews 5th penalty so the Albion progress to a two-legged regional final with Luton.
Thought of the Day:
Would the quote "we were smashed like Baby P" be acceptable on the fans phone in?
