Swindon Town- Saturday 28/12/08

The pressure was beginning to build on Micky Adams. With the Albion sitting in the relegation zone, in their lowest league position since May 2001, a first away win since August was a must. Defeat against relegation rivals Swindon would leave the Seagulls walking into 2009 looking likely to be a side that would be battling to avoid a spot in League Two for 2009-10. It could also prove to be the final coffin in Micky Adams coffin. With McCarthy joining university friend Alex Retter for the weekend in deepest darkest Wiltshire, the Crocs made the trip to the County Ground knowing that it was a pivotal afternoon in the clubs season.

Mode of Transport:
A 15 minute train journey from Chippenham for McCarthy and Retter.
Team:
Adams named the following in a 4-4-2 formation: Sullivan, Whing, Elphick, Hinshelwood, Richards; Virgo, Fraser, Johnson, McLeod; Forster, Fleetwood.
Kit:
Swindon wore their home uniforms consisting of all red with white trim. Brighton wore their third choice kit consisting of sky blue jerseys, shorts and stockings. John Sullivan went for his yellow shirt coupled with black and white trim, alongside black shorts and socks.
Micky Adams Attire:
Mr Adams was in standard issue training kit, completed nicely with white trainers.
Weather:
A cold yet clear day in Swindon.
Stadium Rating:
A large main stand was faced with a newer two tiered effort. One end behind the goal was left unoccupied, and was made up of a large unseated stand, while the opposite end was a cauldron of noise, consisting of a small stand with a low roof. 6/10
Food Rating:
The ludicrous queuing system prevented any food from being purchased
Entertainment:
The large dancing Robin of last year was again on show, and he had not lost the moves over the course of 2008. 7/10
Friendliness of Locals:
Some relatively normal locals were encountered within the public houses visited, but the general consensus was that most were of a pikey nature. 5/10
Standard of Local Females:
Swindon appeared to live up to its reputation of being a place that attracts slags, but unfortunately the ones we encountered were of a disappointing nature. 5/10
Steward Rating:
Allowed fans to stand, and one steward even asked if he could use McCarthy's hat. 8/10
Flag Attention:
We were unable to gauge the attention of the flag as it is currently in Nottingham. Somewhere.
Match Report:
The Albion climbed out of the drop zone thanks to a 2-0 victory away at relegation rivals Swindon. Captain Nicky Forster grabbed the goals, the second coming from the penalty spot, as Brighton came up against a team that were somehow worse than themselves to give the traveling support a first league win since October, and a first victory on the road since August.
Thought of the Day:
The chant of "we're shit and we're beating you"
