Charlton Athletic - Tuesday 23/02/10

League One is full of big, former Premiership sides this season. In the space of the last month, the Albion have taken on Norwich and The Leeds United, with Southampton still to come later in the year. The run of, quite frankly, absurdly hard games ended with a trip to Charlton. The two sides hadn't met for many a year, and with a short hop to South London and the chance to spend a day sampling some of the capitals fine watering holes, the Albion could expect a large amount of support as they looked to build on the point from Leeds on Saturday against another promotion candidate

Mode of Transport:
The train was taken for the relatively short jaunt up to London Bridge
Team:
Gustavo named a 4-5-1 line-up of: Brezovan, Calderon, El Abd, Elphick, Painter; Bennett, Navarro, Dicker, Crofts, Lua Lua; Forster
Kit:
Charlton were in their world-famous red shirts with white trim, white shorts and white socks. Brighton wore their home shirts of blue and white stripes coupled nicely with alternative blue shorts and blue socks. Peter Brezovan wore the emerald green goalkeepers top with black shorts and socks
Gus Poyet's Attire:
Gustavo appeared in his suit, no tie combination along with a standard issue training jacket
Weather:
A cold evening with light drizzle that became heavier as the game approached its conclusion
Stadium Rating:
The Valley is a fine stadium. Three large stands make up the home sections of the ground, with the main stand and behind the goal featuring two tiers. Away fans are housed in the smaller Jimmy Seed Stand behind the goal, which although dated allows for a good atmosphere. 8/10
Food Rating:
Poor. Not just Potter's, but also Walmsley's hotdog both fell apart. This was particularly disapointing as the lubricated penis type promised so much
Entertainment:
Nothing on offer. 0/10
Friendliness of Locals:
Delightful. People were happy to stop and chat about the trials and tribulations of being Brighton fans and the people in general were a joy to converse with despite being only four miles from Millwall. 9/10
Standard of Local Females:
Being London, there were an insanely high number of attractive women in and around the London Bridge area. The stadium itself however seemed to be devoid of the female touch. 6/10
Steward Rating:
Allowed fans to stand and were generally helpful, especially when turning a blind eye to people who were too lazy to walk all the way around the back of the stand in order to enter the upper area of the accomodation, and as such just climbed over the top. 7/10
Flag Attention:
The Crocs flag was not taken to this game
Match Report:
The Albion made it four points out of six against the much-fancied duo of Leeds United and Charlton Athletic thanks to a 2-1 win over the latter at The Valley. Inigo Calderon opened the scoring with his first goal for the Seagulls, before a screamer from Elliot Bennett secured the points despite a late consolation for the Addicks.
Thought of the Day:
McCarthy and Potter were able to consume virtually an entire meal through the taster food in Sainsbury's, which lead us to question if you could live off it if it was available every day. Probably not if every branch employs the Nazi's that plague Haywards Heath after Potter was informed he was "greedy" by one delicatessen worker.
