Mode
of Transport:
Witham drove to Cheltenham Spa, where him and
McCarthy took the train down to Exeter St Davids,
meeting Rumble and Potter who had made the train
journey from Sussex |
 |
Team:
Gustavo named a 4-4-2 line up consisting of:
Brezovan, Hoyte, Elphick, Tunnicliffe, El-Abd;
Bennett, Crofts, Dicker, Navaro; Murray, Forster |
 |
Kit:
Exeter were in their traditional home kits of
red and white striped shirts, white shorts and
white stockings. Brighton wore their yellow and
navy striped jerseys, navy shorts and navy
socks. Peter Brezovan debuted in a delightful
white jersey coupled with black shorts and
stockings |

Gus
Poyet's Attire:
Mr Poyet appeared in his standard issue
tracksuit with training jacket and a pair of
stunningly white trainers |
 |
Weather:
Constant drizzle but nonetheless a warmish day
given normal December standards of weather. |
 |
Stadium
Rating:
The real St James Park is a smart small ground.
A large covered terrace behind one goal helps
generate a fine atmosphere, while a small seated
stand lines one side. Down the other side is an
old-fashioned style seated area that covers the
middle third of the pitch, while behind the goal
is a small uncovered terrace used to house away
fans. 6/10 |
 |
Food
Rating:
The away end offers authentic Dominos Pizza.
Unfortunately, the demand for this saw it sold
out before half time. McCarthy and Rumble
settled for a shared cheese and onion pasty,
which was huge and extremely delightful. 8/10 |
 |
Entertainment:
Cheerleaders who were fit and performed a lovely
routine despite the cold. 7/10 |
 |
Friendliness
of Locals:
We met a number of fine locals in and around the
Exeter area, including some who were delighted
with McCarthy's shoes. Unfortunately, none of
these called each others "janners" in
the style of the Plymouth Argyle Aviva advert.
8/10 |
 |
Standard
of Local Females:
Plenty of fit women in and around the local
area, which may have been aided by Exeter's
large university population. 7/10 |
 |
Steward
Rating:
The stewards were not noticed
at all, which usually denotes they have done a
good job. 8/10 |

Flag
Attention:
The Crocs flag was not taken to this game |

Match
Report:
Andrew Crofts grabbed a last minute header to
give the Albion all three points in a drab
affair at St James Park. Neither team did much
to inspire on a wet December day, and Exeter
will feel that they may have deserved all three
points after seeing a weak Marcus Stewart
penalty saved by debutant Peter Brezovan, but
the Seagulls rearguard held on and were rewarded
when their captain popped up with a header right
at the death |
 |
Thought
of the Day:
On seeing Peter Brezovan for the first time,
Rumble decided that he would almost certainly
have got an erection had he have not given blood
the previous day |
