Crocs on Tour > 2009-10 > Aston Villa

Aston Villa - Saturday 23/01/10

It had been all anybody had talked about since the draw for the fourth round had been made - Aston Villa away. Chasing that coverted Champions League spot in the Premiership, already in the final of the Carling Cup and packed with some of the best young English talent around, most people were expecting what could best be described as a raping. Still, days like this are meant for upsets - could the Albion pull off one of the biggest in recent years?

On the journey home from this particular game, Baby Potts was unfortunately lost. He had been a loyal companion on his eight away games, yielding six wins and many of us had grown to become quite attached to the little chap. In honour of his passing, we would like dedicate this Crocs on Tour outing to the memory of Baby Potts - may he be happy and cherished, wherever he is. Gone, but never forgotten - RIP Baby Potts

Mode of Transport:
The train was used for this game, with Rumble, Potter and Jenkins traveling from London and McCarthy making the short hop from Cheltenham
Team:
Gus went for a 4-4-2 line up that was made up of: Kuipers, Calderon, Elphick, Virgo, McNulty; Bennett, Navarro, Crofts, Dicker; Forster, Murray
Kit:
Aston Villa wore their famous home uniforms consisting of claret shirts with sky blue sleeves, white shorts and sky blue socks. The Albion were in their home shirts of blue and white stripes, coupled with alternative shorts and socks made up of blue. Michel Kuipers wore his charcoal goalkeepers jersey with black shorts and socks
Gus Poyet's Attire:
Gus looked practically edible in his suit with no tie combination
Weather:
Clear but rather fresh day in the Midlands
Stadium Rating:
Villa Park is one of the most traditional grounds in the country. The large, two tiered Holte End occupies one end of the ground, with the opposite taken up by the two tiered North Stand. The Trinity Road stand plays host to the facilites for all the posh people, while opposite that is the Doug Ellis stand. 9/10
Food Rating:
Shockingly poor. Only pies available, and they had sold out by half time. Premiership club, non-league catering. 1/10
Entertainment:
Two mascots of an indistinguishable source pratting about. 2/10
Friendliness of Locals:
Very friendly. They happily chatted away in pubs prior to the game, and one local bus driver even pulled off what can only be described as an emergency stop to allow McCarthy to board his vehicle after he had missed it. 8/10
Standard of Local Females:
Birmingham had its fair share of fitties about, and these were helped by the appearance of Gullys Girls. Not a patch on the Yorkshire region however. 5/10
Steward Rating:
Allowed fans to stay and did a generally good job in helping Albion supporters enjoy their big day out. 8/10
Flag Attention:
The Crocs flag was not taken to this game
Match Report:
Brighton could not pull off the FA Cup shock their fans had been dreaming of as they went down to a credible 3-2 defeat at Aston Villa. Villa opened the scoring before Tommy Elphick sent the Albion into halftime at 1-1, but the Premier League sides class showed as they scored with consummate ease twice in the second period before Nicky Forster grabbed a late consolation for the Seagulls
Thought of the Day:
Simon Valder announcing that his Strongbow tastes of sick, before having to question if he himself had infact been sick into it
