Bristol Rovers - Saturday 05/02/11

After the disappointment of Tuesday nights draw away at Leyton Orient which saw the chasing pack close in on the Albion, a tough looking trip followed to relegation-threatened Bristol Rovers. The Memorial Ground has become something of a luck venue for the Seagulls in recent years as they have never lost their since the Gas moved in a decade ago, and Gus Poyet's men knew they would need to keep up that fine record if they were to remain at the summit of League One

Mode of Transport:
It was a train journey along arguably one of the worst lines in the world, the south coast route from Brighton-Fratton-Bristol
Team:
Gus went with his FA Cup formation of 4-3-3 with the following personnel: Ankergren, Calderon, El Abd, Greer, Painter; Bennett, Dicker, Bridcutt; Wood, Murray, Barnes
Kit:
Rovers wore their famous home uniforms of blue and white quarters, white shorts and white socks. The Albion avoided a kit clash in their away kit on red and black stripes, black shorts and red socks while Casper went for the stunning yellow jersey with black shorts and socks
Gus Poyet's Attire:
Gus obviously decided it would be a poor decision to ruin a designer suit in the windy conditions, and thus went for standard issue training gear of a coat and tracksuit trousers
Weather:
Hurricane-esque as a cruel wind and occasional drizzle whipped across Bristol
Stadium Rating:
The Memorial Stadium is shared with the cities rugby club, which means that the pitch resembles a cabbage patch. One large, covered terrace operates behind the goal and a strange, pavilion like structure holds terracing, seating and some executvie boxes down one side. The main stand has a terrace and seating behind it, while away fans are now mainly stored in a Withdean-esque temporary structure behind the goal with a roof that, in windy conditions, often threatens to blow away. 6/10
Food Rating:
No food was taken due to the queuing situation
Entertainment:
Nothing on offer
Friendliness of Locals:
Bristol people seem like a good bunch as we found out with the many that we talked to in various pubs before and after the game, even if at times it was hard to decipher what was being said owing to the Hot Fuzz style accent they employ. 8/10
Standard of Local Females:
There was a distinct lack of local females about, although this may have been due to fear after what happened recently to Joanna Yeates. 3/10
Steward Rating:
They lived up to the mantle of a good steward is one you don't notice, and we didn't notice any. They were particularly helpful when turning a blind eye as McCarthy wandered into the home end at the end of the game to use the toilet. 8/10
Flag Attention:
With the temporary nature of the stands and the fact that she needs to be in prime condition for the mid-week trip to Denmark, the flag was left behind
Match Report:
Brighton retained top spot in League One with a 4-2 victory over Bristol Rovers in difficult conditions. Will Hoskins gave the Gas the lead with a fine strike from 25 yards, but goals from Ashley Barnes, Elliott Bennet, Glenn Murray and an own-goal put the game beyond doubt before Hoskins completed his brace late on
Thought of the Day:
If there was nobody on the train home, we could run up and down it totally naked
