Dagenham and Redbridge - Tuesday 29/03/11

A remarkable run of form had taken place in March, with the Albion having won seven games in a row. The results had solidified their position at the top of League One, and the question on most fans lips was now when, not if, they would be promoted to the Championship. Brighton had never met Dagenham and Redbridge before, so with a chance to visit a new stadium, see a new team and possibly extend that winning run to a club-record equalling nine games in a row, we headed to Victoria Road in the east end of London to witness what would hopefully be another step towards promotion

Mode of Transport:
Train was taken to London Bridge, and then the underground was used to reach Dagenham
Team:
Mr Poyet used a 4-4-2 formation for the outing consisting of: Ankergren, Calderon, Greer, Elphick, Painter; Bennett, Bridcutt, Dicker, Noone; Murray, Sandaza
Kit:
The Daggers wore their home uniforms of red and blue shirts, blue shorts and blue socks. Due to both the Seagulls home and away kits clashing, they wore their one-off (which has now been worn twice) all white kit, while Casper went for his emerald green jersey with black shorts and socks
Gus Poyet's Attire:
Gus was once again in his delightfully fitted suit, a sign that we are now into British Summer Time
Weather:
A relatively warm day in London was followed by a clear evening in the east end
Stadium Rating:
Victoria Road was hosting non-league football only four years ago, and it tells. Down one side is a low, covered terrace with a small uncovered terrace behind one of the goals. The main stand is made up of a couple of seated efforts, while away fans are housed behind one goal in a raised seated stand. 4/10
Food Rating:
The ground may be non-league, but the food was absolutely superb. McCarthy cheese and bacon burger at £2 was an absolute steal and one of the best food items consumed at a ground in recent memory. Throw in a small, club house-esque room for away fans under the stand including a bar selling Magners and you have a wonderful little facility. 9/10
Entertainment:
Unsure if anything was on offer due to spending most of the time in the said room under the stand
Friendliness of Locals:
We did not speak to many locals, and those who we did see seemed to be pleasant enough. 5/10
Standard of Local Females:
Dagenham is far from how to East End is portrayed by EastEnders, with not one Stacey Slater in sight. There wasn't even a Carol Jackson. 2/10
Steward Rating:
Attempting to seat every Albion fan in the correct seat was a move that was never going to end well for them, and enforcing the sitting down rule was given up on around halfway through the game. 3/10
Flag Attention:
Due to the small nature of Victoria Road and the fact the away end was due to be full, the flag was not taken
Match Report:
Brighton made it a club-record equalling eight wins in a row with a 1-0 success at relegation threatened Dagenham and Redbridge. They were made to work hard for the victory, with ex-Seagull Bas Savage somehow hitting the bar with an open goal at his mercy from a yard before Glenn Murray got the decisive strike for his 20th of the season
Thought of the Day:
A broken phone is never a good phone - especially when you can't ring people, you can't text, and you are just stuck with a picture of Peter Canning on your mobile
