Exeter City - Monday 03/01/11

2011 is all set up to be one of the most pivotal years in the history of the Albion. With The Amex set to open and Gus Poyet's men leading a charge towards the Championship, it could be one of great celebrations. A poor run of form since November had seen the chasing pack reel in the League One leaders, and a first win since despatching Exeter nearly three months ago arrived when Orient were beaten 5-0 on Saturday. St James' Park is a tough place to go though with the home side only having lost once there all season in the league, and three points would be a fantastic result to start the year with a bang

Mode of Transport:
A 5.54 train departure from Hove was the order of the day as we made the journey to Exeter St Davids via Clapham
Team:
A 4-5-1 starting XI of: Ankergren, Taricco, Greer, El Abd, Painter; Bennett Dicker, Bridcutt, Sparrow, Noone; Murray
Kit:
Exeter were in their home uniforms of red and white stripes, black shorts and black socks. The Albion wore their home kits of blue and white stripes, blue shorts and socks while Casper Ankergren went with his emerald green jersey, black shorts and socks
Gus Poyet's Attire:
Gus was in standard issue suit coupled with club training jacket. Exeter boss Paul Tisdale was the man who stole the show though with his flat cap and suit number
Weather:
A mainly dry day with reasonable temperatures
Stadium Rating:
A smart stadium for this level of football. A traditional main stand straddles the half way line while away fans are housed in a tiny uncovered terrace behind a goal. The home end is a large covered terrace while the final piece in the jigsaw is a modern seated stand down one side. 6/10
Food Rating:
Once again, the Dominoes pizza inside the ground was sold out meaning Exeter cannot acheive it's maximum mark potential. The sheer size of the cheese and onion slice makes up for it though as it was so big that McCarthy was still eating it when Exeter netted their first, which unfortunately resulted in it going flying onto the perimeter track. 8/10
Entertainment:
A large bear-esque mascot was about as good as it got. 2/10
Friendliness of Locals:
A city of very nice people from bar staff down to opposition fans. 8/10
Standard of Local Females:
Being a university city, the standard was high as you might expect despite the fact that most students were not back yet. 8/10
Steward Rating:
Delightfully friendly, in particular the one who agreed to a mock photo of removing Kane from the stadium. 8/10
Flag Attention:
With Exeter offering little in the way of flag hanging positions, it was left behind
Match Report:
A last minute goal from Ashley Barnes gave the Albion a hard-fought 2-1 win over Exeter. The home side, who had lost only once at St James' Park all season, took a first half lead but the introduction of subs Ashley Barnes and Chris Wood allowed Glenn Murray to equalise before Barnes popped up with his second goal from the bench in as many games
Thought of the Day:
How far do you think it is possible to insert a typical butternut squash up somebodies bottom? A question that was followed by an experiment to find out
