Peterborough United - Saturday 30/10/10

Brighton went into their game against Peterborough topping the League One table by six points. Despite the 4-0 demolition job done on Charlton two weeks previously, a game against the Posh was going to be a different kettle of fish. They have three of the best forwards in the league and while have been suspect at the back, they score for fun. Gary Johnson had been talking the game up all week as being some kind of cup final, and it would be the last chance that Albion fans would have to stand on the finest remaining terrace in the country thanks to its conversion to seats in the near future. It was all set to be another great atmosphere and another great day out - especially as, no matter what, Brighton would be top come the end of it

Mode of Transport:
Peterborough is heavily served by the First Capital Connect train line which ensured that 4 for 2 tickets could be purchased
Team:
A 4-1-2-1-2 line up once again incorporating a diamond midfield: Ankergren, Calderon, Greer, El Abd, Painter; Kishishev; Bridcutt, Dicker; Bennett; Murray, Barnes
Kit:
Peterborough were in their home uniforms consisting of blue shirts, blue shorts and white socks. Brighton wore their away kits of red and black stripes, black shorts and red socks while Casper was in his emerald green jersey with black shorts and socks
Gus Poyet's Attire:
Gustavo was in his normal attire of suited and booted, minus tie, despite the increasingly cold weather
Weather:
Despite warnings of heavy rain, it was a dry if not slightly crisp day
Stadium Rating:
The last two remaining proper terraces are at London Road, and they are set to be gone come the end of this season. They roll back the years to the glory days of the 1970's with crowd surges and tobacco smoke. Seeing as this is the last time we will stand on them, we've decided to say sod the rest of the ground and award a Crocs first 10/10. Goodbye Peterborough terraces - you'll never be forgotten
Food Rating:
One food outlet was a far from ideal scenario with thousands packed onto the terrace, and as such none was consumed
Entertainment:
Gary Johnson wanted this to be a big day at London Road with plenty of blue and white. Unfortunately, a couple of wank flags in the corner and a load of balloons being released did not quantify this suggestion. 2/10
Friendliness of Locals:
The Peterborough fans we met on the way back to the station were all decent folk, and no problems were encountered throughout the day. 8/10
Standard of Local Females:
A fair few decent women were seen in and around the town centre, although the pubs we visited were devoid of them. 5/10
Steward Rating:
A good steward is one that is not noticed, and if truth be known none were noticed at Peterborough. The heavy police presence around the game though did seem a little over the top, including the British Transport Police we had accompany us home, but that can't detract from the fact that a good job was done by all. 8/10
Flag Attention:
A drunken day on a packed terrace was designated as not the best day to take the flag to
Match Report:
The Albion defeated third placed Peterborough 3-0 on their own patch in a game in which Posh goalkeeper Joe Lewis was the undoubted man-of-the-match. Ashley Barnes and Inigo Calderon gave the Seagulls a 2-0 lead in a first half that also saw Elliott Bennett miss a penalty, before Barnes added his second from the spot to send Brighton eight points clear at the top of League One
Thought of the Day:
The best way to counter an unbearably hot sauce is to drink milk, so if you rub that hot sauce in your eye by accident, is pouring milk into it the best way to cool it? McCarthy believed the answer was a yes owing to the fact that he had carried out this very technique back in July
