Rochdale - Saturday 02/04/11

Rochdale is well known for a couple of things. Having a town hall that, Hitler won the war, he wanted moved to Germany and rebuilt brick-by-bick in its exact design, and having a football team that had spent the best part of thirty years in the basement division of English football. But now that they finally have got out of it, they don't seem to want to stay in League One as they bid for a second successive promotion through the play-offs. Despite having won eight games in a row, this obviously meant that Brighton's trip to the delightfully named Spotland was going to be an extremely tough one. With the hosts themselves on a five game winning run, something was going to have to give as we ventured into deepest darkest Lancashire.

Mode of Transport:
The train was used for this one, with the bizarre and cost-saving decision to travel back via Leeds taken
Team:
Mr Poyet kept the same 4-4-2 formation deployed at Dagenham with a starting line-up of: Ankergren, Calderon, Greer, Elphick, Painter; Bennett, Kishishev, Bridcutt, Dicker; Wood, Murray
Kit:
Rochdale were in their home kits of all blue, while the Albion were thus forced into their away uniforms of red and black stripes, black shorts and red socks. Casper wore his lovely emerald green shirt teamed with black shorts and stockings
Gus Poyet's Attire:
Gus was once again in his standard issue suit
Weather:
A delightful day in Lancashire, with clear skies and although not boiling hot, a clear indication temperature-wise that spring has sprung
Stadium Rating:
Spotland is a fine little arena. A medium sized seated stand behind the goal is faced by a small, covered terrace. A little seated main stand runs down one side of the pitch, while away fans are housed in a decent sized seated stand opposite. 6/10
Food Rating:
Rochdale has a glowing reputation for its pies, and it wasn't hard to see why on this evidence. Meaty, cheap and hot. 8/10
Entertainment:
Nothing on offer
Friendliness of Locals:
Every single Rochdale fan we met was extremely friendly and helpful, more than willing to sit down and discuss football, politics and Hitler's loving of the town hall. 9/10
Standard of Local Females:
Not many women were about in Rochdale. We can only conclude this is because they were in the kitchen, as is the norm in the northern parts of England
Steward Rating:
Delightful. One lady steward on the turnstile allowed McCarthy to finish his pint before entering the stadium, cracked a few jokes and then even gave him a cheeky tickle when she spotted him enjoying a half time pint. Her colleagues were also very competent at their jobs. 9/10
Flag Attention:
The flag was not taken to
Rochdale
Match Report:
An entertaining game at Rochdale ended Brighton's eight game winning streak as they were held 2-2. The home side took the lead before Chris Wood equalised from the penalty spot. Gary Dicker put the Seagulls 2-1 ahead just after the break, but another penalty, this time for the home side, ensured it ended al square
Thought of the Day:
Out of our past three assistant managers, who would you rather spend a night of passion with - Bob Booker, Dean White or Mauricio Taricco. There was, of course, only one answer - and he wouldn't have thrown a television into the bargain either
