Watford - Saturday 28/01/11

From day one, Gus Poyet hasn't really taken the FA Cup very seriously. Despite being held by two part time teams earlier in the competition though, Brighton had battled their way through to the fourth round for the second year running. The opponents this time were high-flying Championship side Watford. It had been over twenty years since the Seagulls last flew into the fifth round, and so over 4000 Albion fans made their way to Hertfordshire to see if it could happen this time around for the League One leaders

Mode of Transport:
The train took the strain, as we headed via Littlehampton to avoid a rail replacement situation between Brighton and Three Bridges
Team:
A bold decision from Gustavo as he went with a 4-3-3 line-up away from home of: Brezovan, Calderon, Greer, Elphick, Painter; Sparrow, Bridcutt, Dicker; Wood, Barnes, Murray
Kit:
Watford wore their home uniforms of yellow shirts, black shorts and yellow socks. The Albion were in their home kits of blue and white stripes, blue shorts and socks while Sexy Peter Brezovan looked like God's gift to women and men in a delightful emerald green jersey, black shorts and stockings
Gus Poyet's Attire:
Gus went with his normal suit look along with a training jacket
Weather:
A dry, crisp day which you would expect as standard at the end of January
Stadium Rating:
Vicarage Road has probably seen better days but remains a fine place to watch football. Two large, covered stands are in place behind the goals, while down one side is a two-tiered effort with a fine wave-effect roof. The remaining side has a derelict stand covering one third, some white bed sheets and an empty corner. Unfortunately, sharing the stadium with Saracens and thus the pitch having to take Gavin Henson's incredible body every few weeks takes its toll as it resembles an allotment. 7/10
Food Rating:
The queuing system within the away end was probably best described as a rape scene, which meant no food was taken.
Entertainment:
Queuing for food in the rape scene that was the aforementioned queue means that we also missed most of any entertainment on offer.
Friendliness of Locals:
Extremely friendly. From the people who helped us find our designated pub to the Watford fans who lead us to the ground and were quite happy chatting away, the people were a joy to be around. 9/10
Standard of Local Females:
There was something of a lack of women about, even in the shopping centres around the town. 5/10
Steward Rating:
Very good and helpful in finding both seats and the correct turnstiles. Allowed fans to stand and no problems experienced. 8/10
Flag Attention:
A sold out away section meant that this game was deemed one for the flag to not make the journey to
Match Report:
The Albion marched into the fifth round of the FA Cup with their second Championship scalp of the competition as Watford were defeated 1-0. Ashley Barnes got the goal thanks to a huge assist from the Hornets reserve 'keeper, and the promotion chasing yellows couldn't find a way back into the game past the Seagulls as they marched onto an away date with Stoke City
Thought of the Day:
When asked if we drove to the game by a set of Watford fans, we informed them we had infact come via wheelchair which lead to the question of would that actually be possible?
