Woking - Tuesday 16/11/10

The joy of the FA Cup is that there is always the chance that there will be an upset. After being held to a draw in their First Round game with Blue Square South side Woking, Brighton were facing a tough looking game away at Kingfield. With the ESPN cameras in tow, a classic cup atmosphere expected, Gus Poyet continuing his disregard for anything other than the league by sending out a fringe team and the Albion coming off the back of their second league defeat of the season at Hartlepool on Saturday, all the ingredients were there for the number one team currently in the competition to be the victims of a shock

Mode of Transport:
In order to reduce costs for what was categorised as a pointless game of football, McCarthy took to the wheel of the Mac Mobile for the hour journey to Woking
Team:
A fringe line up in a 4-4-2 formation consisting of: Brezovan, Calderon, Elphick, Greer, Taricco; Bennett, Dicker, Kishishev, Sparrow; Barnes, Hart
Kit:
Woking wore their home uniforms of red and white halves, black shorts and white socks. Brighton were in their home kit of blue and white stripes, blue shorts and stockings while Sexy Pete Brezovan looked a million dollars in a delightful yellow jersey coupled with black shorts and socks
Gus Poyet's Attire:
With winter here, Gustavo wore a suit effort complete with winter jacket to ensure he was protected from the bitter cold
Weather:
Warnings of rain proved unfounded, yet it was still a freezing cold evening in Surrey
Stadium Rating:
Kingfield is your typical non-league stadium. One large, modern seated stand bizarrely dominates behind one goal, with two shed like structures down one side alongside a terrace completing the main stand. The other goal features a low roofed terrace that created a cracking atmopshere, and the Albion were housed on an open terrace down one side of the pitch. 4/10
Food Rating:
McCarthy's burger should have been billed as an e-coli burger rather than cheese, and Witham's stone cold pasty was comparable to the legendary QPR effort of New Years Day 2005 that was thrown away after one bite. One mark awarded for selling Ribena however. 1/10
Entertainment:
A cat-based mascot was about as good as it got. 2/10
Friendliness of Locals:
The locals in the stand behind the goal were very interested in singing songs about Brighton fans being gay and taunting them when they briefly held the lead, but this was put down to it being the people of Woking's cup final and thus too many young men who had watched too much Football Factory. 7/10
Standard of Local Females:
An absolutely incredibly fit steward was doing the rounds in the away end. Unfortunately, there seemed a distinct lack of other women in the Woking area. 6/10
Steward Rating:
Dealt well with the Albion fans, even if some of the policing and filming of the crowd did seem a little over the top. Slow to deal with flares though. 8/10
Flag Attention:
The flag was positioned at the back of the terrace, and received some looks of confussion from Woking fans who seemed to fail to grasp the fact that the pink Seagull meant homosexuality is nothing to be ashamed about. 6/10
Match Report:
Brighton scraped through to round two of the FA Cup with a penalty shoot out win over Blue Square South Woking. Matt Sparrow gave the Albion the lead before the Cards equalised and forced the tie into extra time. With assistant manager Mauricio Taricco getting sent off on his first start in six years, the home side then went ahead before Elliott Bennett ensured the game went to penalties, and with Working missing all three of their spot kicks the Seagulls progressed 3-0 to meet FC United of Manchester in round two
Thought of the Day:
McCarthy decided that he would rather go on holiday in Iraq with a caravan decorated with George Bush's face on it than attend the game that he was currently driving towards
