Mode
of Transport:
Three Crocs on Tour vehicles met at the Preston
Park arena, while a train was also used for one
member of Team Croc |
Team:
A solid 2-2-1 formation was used throughout the
day, with the squad consisting of: Scott
McCarthy, Spencer Slaughter, Tom Cutting, Bert
Lloyd, Mark Potter, Kevin Ticehurst, Neil Kane,
Tom Witham |
Kit:
The Crocs were in their traditional kits of
yellow shirts, yellow shorts and yellow socks.
McCarthy went for his evergreen jersey, lime
green shorts and evergreen socks |
Russell
Slade's Attire:
Russell Slade had more important things to do,
such as keeping his head impeccably shiny, than
to attend the tournament. Mores the pity, as
some of the players on show gave better
performances than the Albion in the previous
days 1-0 home defeat to Walsall |
Weather:
A hot and humid day, although slightly moist
underfoot early on |
Stadium
Rating:
Despite having paid for the hire of pitches and
as such expecting them to be marked, Brighton
and Hove Council had done bugger all which meant
the pitches had to be marked with cones.
Luckily, the councils balls up didn't detract
from the day. 6/10 |
Food
Rating:
The cafe in the middle of the park provided not
just slush puppies, not just delightful
sandwiches, but also a plethora of female talent
to cast the eyes over. 8/10 |
Entertainment:
A large group of people, mainly hungover,
attempting to play football? It doesn't get more
entertaining than that. 8/10 |
Friendliness
of Locals:
Everyone who played in the tournament was
extremely friendly, even those who were taking
things a little too seriously when the aim of
the day was to raise money for charity. 9/10 |
Standard
of Local Females:
The heat of the day bought a fair amount of
flange out into the park, mostly wearing very
little. 7/10 |
Flag
Attention:
Mark Potter neglected to bring the new Crocs
flag, which is still awaiting decoration |
Match
Report:
Team Croc pulled off the biggest shock since
Greece's Euro 2004 triumph as they came from
nowhere to claim the NSC Six-a-side crown. Group
A was won following a 0-0 draw with BHA
Supporters, a 3-1 win over defending champions
Sporting Bad Haircuts and a 6-0 triumph over
rivals Brighton and Hove Actually. The semi's
saw a 2-1 win over Allstars, and a 0-0 draw in
the final with Exiles was followed by a 4-3
penalty shoot out triumph, with Slaughter,
Ticehurst, Potter and McCarthy all netting, and
the Crocs keeper saving the final kick to bring
the trophy back to the Crocs Lair |
Thought
of the Day:
Neil Kane shooting from kick off in every game
caused an issue in the final when the opponents
questioned if it was allowed. Referee Jenkins
view was that "they have been doing it all
day, so why stop them now", despite the
fact it was illegal. We questioned what would
happen if this attitude was applied by a court
of law in a case of rape |
