The top five Brighton players in modern times
When speaking of tradition, pride and teamwork, there are few teams which can rival Brighton. Originally founded in 1901, we have seen countless players come and go over the years.
There are still a handful of personalities who have managed to rise to the top of their game. Let’s take a quick look at some great names as well as what each unique personality brought to the pitch during his heyday.
Gary Stevens
Gary Stevens is perhaps most known for his performance when Brighton faced off against Manchester United in 1983. While an adept player before this competition, Stevens gave Brighton an extra bit of breathing room after scoring a goal with only three minutes remaining.
While his efforts failed to secure a win, Stevens is still remembered as being one of the most talented Brighton players.
Bobby Zamora
When we consider that Zamora was snapped up for the relatively small sum of £100,000 pounds back in 1999, this fee certainly seems like a bargain.
Bobby Zamora scored a total of six goals in an equal amount of appearances; quickly illustrating that he was a worthwhile investment. His successive goals in the coming seasons helped Brighton to compete in two championship competitions.
As a testament to his prowess on the pitch, the famous song “That’s Amore” was replaced with “That’s Zamora”.
Lewis Dunk
Watching Lewis Dunk transform from a League One competitor into a stellar Brighton star was somewhat equivalent to witnessing a novice slots player walk away with a massive jackpot.
Dunk has seemed quite comfortable with making the transition to the Premier League and thanks to his relatively young age, we have to wonder what the future has in store.
Perhaps his most well-known moment occurred in 2014 when he scored a 75-minute goal to vanquish Fulham at Craven Cottage.
Glenn Murray
Having played six different tiers of English football, there is no doubt that Glenn Murray is a legend in his own right. Although many Brighton fans were understandably stymied when learning of his stint at Crystal Palace, Murray has certainly earned a spot within this list thanks to his incomparable performance during the 2017 season.
This was further cemented when he was instrumental in securing a much-needed victory over Arsenal in 2018.
Bruno
Any player who can be referred to by a single name obviously deserves credit. Bruno arrived at Brighton after a rather tumultuous relationship with Spain.
Thankfully, this captain was known for his reliability during championship matches. This (unsurprisingly) earned him the title of “Mr. Reliable”. Bruno is still known for his shaved head and intimidating presence while on the pitch.
Of course, Brighton is still creating some truly stellar players in these present times. This is why fans of all ages are curious to know what the near future might have in store.
Either way, Brighton is without a doubt here to stay and other teams should remain wary of a team with such a rich history.
