Bournemouth 3-0 Brighton: Enciso tops ratings “for having a shot”

Want to know how bad the Albion were at the Vitality Stadium? Second half substitute Julio Enciso topped the Bournemouth 3-0 Brighton player ratings on account of “having a shot” as one Seagulls supporter wrote on Twitter.

Yes, we are really at the stage where doing something as radical as attempting to score a goal is enough to earn you a six as the best Brighton player on the pitch.

Another Albion fan added “I am going to put in as much effort into this as the Albion did in playing… so ones all round.” Ouch.

Lewis Dunk was the only player other than Enciso to score over a five. Dunk did not manage a shot, but he did look like he actually cared – a rarity on this dismal afternoon.

Here are your Bournemouth 3-0 Brighton player ratings.

Bart Verbruggen – 4.57
Not much he could do about any of the goals as he was badly let down by his defence and the Albion’s complete and utter inability to defend set pieces.

Odel Offiah – 4.57
A tough full Premier League debut for the nephew of rugby legend Martin Offiah. It felt like Roberto De Zerbi starting him was a not-so-subtle hint to the board that right back is an area requiring attention this summer.

Lewis Dunk – 5.86
Produced a couple of important blocks and interventions, without which the defeat could have been even heavier.

Igor Julio – 3.57
Looked like he had never played a game of professional football before in his life. Jan Paul van Hecke being out for an unspecified timeframe with a hamstring injury is a huge blow to Brighton.

Valentin Barco – 4.71
Needs to get better at retaining possession but that will hopefully come with experience. One of the brigher looking Albion players going forward.

Pascal Gross – 4.43
Brighton reliance on Gross has been made clear in recent months. With his creative juices not currently flowing, goals have dried up for the Albion.

Billy Gilmour – 4.57
A welcome return from injury after a month out. Carried the ball well and tried to help Brighton get on the front foot.

Facundo Buonanotte – 4.57
Buonanotte was responsible for the only shot on target the Albion managed. Based on the logic which swept Enciso to the top of Bournemouth 3-0 Brighton ratings, he probably deserved to score higher than 4.57.

Joao Pedro – 4.57
The most lively Albion player early on, including when luring Marcos Senesi into committing an eighth minute foul punished with a very early yellow card.

Simon Adingra – 3.71
His best performances for Union Saint-Gilloise last season and at AFCON with Ivory Coast came on the left. Given a chance to play down that side and although he didn’t exactly take it, there were some signs he could develop an interesting partnership with Barco.

Mark O’Mahony – 3.71
Another selection decision from De Zerbi which screamed this squad is not deep enough, sign more Premier League ready players in the summer. O’Mahony missed the chance to head away the Bournemouth corner, leading to the opening goal. He was also starved of service going forward.

Danny Welbeck – 3.86
Introduced at half time in place of O’Mahony. Brighton did more as an attacking force with Dat Guy on the pitch.

JULIO ENCISO – 6.00
Took some shots from distance. Should have scored when following up a Buonanotte effort blocked. The bar is low enough at the moment for that to be considered a man of the match performance for a Brighton player.

Joel Veltman – 4.14
Two goals down away at Bournemouth and De Zerbi opted to make a double change, introducing two defenders in Veltman and Adam Webster.

Adam Webster – 4.14
Another decision from De Zerbi which you could argue was meant to make a point to Tony Bloom. We need goals to get back into this game… so here come a centre back and a right back.
