Enock Mwepu forced to retire amidst heart condition concerns
24-year-old Brighton midfield player Enock Mwepu has retired and left Brighton due to a hereditary heart condition.

Enock’s condition unfortunately places him at a very high risk of having a fatal cardiac attack/event, so continuing to play football would be deadly for him.

Recently, Enock was ill while on a flight to visit a Zambian team he captains. After a few concerns, he decided to get checked in a hospital in Mali, which later revealed the state of his heart’s health. Enock took to Twitter to express his sentiments about the news.

As a young boy, he stated that it was always his dream to play football, coming from the small Zambian town of Chambishi.

He always wanted to play at the highest level. He thanked God for gracing him with the chance to play in the Premier League.

He stated that even though the medics have told him that he needs to stop playing, he does not want to cut all ties with football.

He still wants to be involved in one way or another. Perhaps he will end up coaching in this time period since he already captains a team.

He later thanked his team for the time they’d played together. He also expressed his gratitude towards his wife and his family.

Enock began his football career in his home country Zambia. He played for team NAPSA stars and then Kafue Celtic. Afterward, he moved to Europe in 2017, played for Red Bull Salzburg, and was on loan for a season with FC Liefering in Austria.

With such an unfortunate and sudden halt to his professional football career, Enock will have to face some challenging times ahead.

However, on a more positive note, Brighton’s Head of Medicine and Performance, Adam Brett, stated the club would help Enock with the treatment that he needs to help with his heart condition.

Brighton Chief Bloom has said that the Seagulls will help Enock with this latest tragic news. Bloom claimed that they would support him in making a full recovery.

He expressed his sentiments to Enock, recognizing his talent and potential at his age. Stating that he had a promising career and giving his sympathies to Enock and his family.

Hopefully, Enock will find the strength to continue forward in these challenging times. We also hope and pray for his recovery and that his treatment will help him reduce the risks of the consequences of his condition.

Brighton Scores 0-1 against Tottenham; Harry Kane wins for Tottenham with a header
Brighton loses to Tottenham at the Amex Stadium on Saturday, Oct 8, 2022. Tottenham’s Harry Kane flicked the ball over Sanchez with their head and scored the winning goal for Brighton’s opposing team. Brighton attempted to search for an equalizer but fell short.

Brighton was at a good pace with a draw at 3-3 with Liverpool last weekend. Roberto De Zerbi, Brighton’s new boss, expected the team to have upward momentum. De Zerbi expressed his sentiments in a press conference:

“I never speak about the result, but my teams always play with courage and bravery. I want my team to make the game with personality and the right mentality to build the right conditions to win the game.”

“It is a difficult moment for a lot of things, for the language, for the new staff, the new team, for the new ideas. I would like to put more ideas in, but I don’t want to change that much, but of course, I want to put my hand (on the squad).”

Unfortunately for Zerbi, his hopes have been dashed by this recent match. However, Brighton will have a chance to redeem themselves with an upcoming game against Brentford this Friday, Oct 14, 2022.

Roberto De Zerbi, joined by Salvatore Monaco in Brighton set-up
De Zerbi has brought Salvatore Monaco to his recruitment set-up. De Zerbi and Monaco have worked together in the past at Shakhtar Donetsk.

Monaco is a 49-year-old former defender who received his work permit and will now join the recruitment team under Paul Winstanley.

Monaco is a replacement for Kyle Macaulay. Kyle Macaulay moved with Brighton’s ex-boss Graham Potter to Chelsea. Since Monaco has worked with Zerbi in the past, things should run smoothly working with each other.

De Zerbi has his hands full with the recent retirement of one of Brighton’s team members due to heart concerns and a loss against Tottenham last weekend. It’s up to him and his team to keep the team’s morale up as Premier League continues.
