Brighton should sign Tim Weah just for the person on Instagram

Brighton are one of three Premier League clubs rumoured to be interested in Lille forward Tim Weah – which will be music to the ears of one particular Instagram user.

Weah to Brighton was set up on March 23rd 2021 with the sole purpose of posting one photo per day of Tim Weah until he is signed by the Albion.

22 months later and the page now runs to 661 posts. These include Weah’s statistics, Weah Photoshopped into action shots from Brighton games, Weah on international duty for the United States and Weah winning the Ballon d’or.

Since being launched, Weah to Brighton has been seen two Brighton managers, two monarchs, three Prime Ministers and four Chancellors of the Exchequer.

A Doctor Who has regenerated, Ed Sheeran has hit the top of the singles charts four times and Janine has returned to EastEnders, got pregnant, got engaged, killed Mick and then left again.

The dedication to the cause makes a mockery of studies claiming that young people these days lack determination, drive and focus. Presuming Weah to Brighton is somebody young, of course…

There has even been a Get Timothy Weah a move to Brighton petition set up on Change.org, currently sat on a scandalously low 12 signatures.

The petition reads: “At the moment Timothy Weah is at Lille in Ligue 1, however Timothy is way above this level and deserves a move to the Premier League.”

“In order to make this happen we are hoping for a move to Brighton as they have become known as a club that has a lot of upcoming talent, but lack finishing ability in the Premier League. We believe for those reasons Brighton would be interested in Timothy.”

“Our goal for this petition is to get Brighton’s attention and convince them that Weah is a worthy transfer target and possibly earn the young American a move.”

How much substance there are to the rumours linking Weah with Brighton is unknown.L’Équipe reported that the Albion, Fulham, Everton and Sevilla are all considering a move for Weah after he helped the US to the round of 16 at the World Cup.

He started every game in Qatar, scoring in the 1-1 draw with Wales. Weah’s Lille contract runs out in 18 months, meaning he is likely be available at a reduced price of around £13 million.

A versatile player, Weah is capable of playing anywhere across the front line. He has even been used at right back this season by Lille manager Paolo Fonseca after losing the services of Akim Zedadka to AJ Auxerre.

Weah has played 85 times for Lille, scoring eight goals and claiming eight assists. He moved to the Decathlon Arena in 2019 from Paris Saint-Germain after spending the 2018-19 campaign on loan at Celtic, where scored four in 17 appearances.

At the age of 22, Weah fits the profile of a Brighton signing as young with room to improve. His ability to play right, left or through the middle would mark him out as a potential Leandro Trossard replacement.

Trossard seems certain to leave the Albion at some point in the next six months. His contract expires in the summer of 2024 and he has recently been dropped by Roberto De Zerbi, who criticised the Vampire of Genk for giving less than 100 percent since his return from the World Cup.

Part of me hopes that the Seagulls do sign Weah just to reward the dedication of somebody spending two years of their life posting a photo of him everyday.

Who cares if Weah is any good or not? Get him to the Amex because there are 661 posts on a single Instagram account willing it to happen.

If Tim Weah to Brighton does happen, it will prove that you really can wish something into being if you want it enough.

I am now off to set up a Taylor Swift to marry the guy who runs WAB Instagram account. Expect wedding bells by March 2025.
