Brighton sign Chelsea forward Izzy Brown on loan

Chelsea forward Izzy Brown has joined Brighton and Hove Albion on a season long loan from the Premier League champions.

Brown had recently signed a new contract at Stamford Bridge after a successful loan spell last season with Huddersfield Town.

The England under 20 forward scored four goals in 15 games after joining David Wagner’s side in January, helping them to win promotion through the play offs.

The Terriers had wanted Brown back but he has instead chosen to make the move to the Amex where he will increase Chris Hughton’s forward options with his versatility in being able to play as an out-and-out striker, a deep lying forward, out wide or as a midfielder. He will also add some much needed pace through the middle of the Albion attack.

As well as his temporary spell with Huddersfield, Brown has also spent time on loan with Rotherham United and Chelsea’s Reserve Side in the Dutch League who are known in the Netherlands as Vitesse Arnhem, scoring three times in 20 games and once in 22 appearances respectively.

Brown is the second youngest player in Premier League history having made his West Bromwich Albion debut at the age of 16 years and 117 days at the end of the 2012-13 season. He moved to Chelsea that summer in a fee set by a tribunal with Jose Mourinho stating before the start of the 2014-15 season that if Brown didn’t make it as a full England International he would take the full blame.

Mourinho gave him his Chelsea debut at the end of the 2014-15 season with an 11 minute cameo in a defeat against his former side West Bromwich Albion, for which Mourinho said he would be rewarded with a Premier League winners medal.

Right, we’re bored of reporting facts now. Lets be honest, the really exciting thing about this signing is that he becomes only the second player in Albion history with an afro after Chris Iwelumo’s hair-raising experiment away at Wrexham in 2004.

So the big question is, izzy any good? We’ll just have to wait find out.
