Can Brighton decide the title before summer review begins?

It has been a long and stressful season for Brighton and even if the relegation has been avoided, there are some marks and memories that nobody wants to revisit.

If the match against Arsenal was a start of Brighton’s 2019-2020 Premier League campaign, then we can say that some clear progress has been made even before the big summer performance review has started.

Will Brighton be able to continue in this path and stop Manchester City, de-facto deciding the Premier League title race on Sunday? BestBettingSites.online team has been looking through the odds and it seems very difficult. The Seagulls can be backed at 14/1 to beat Man City while the draw is at 8/1. Manchester City to win and retain the title is just at 1/8.

This is hardly surprising. After all, Brighton have had a disappointing season and Manchester City will be very determined to get the maximum points. Even though Brighton managed to avoid defeat in the last weekend there is little to be thrilled. They have done so against a clunky, unconvincing Arsenal side who is significantly weaker than Manchester City.

A defeat against an ultra-motivated Citizens is fully expected at this stage but what Brighton will then start to do is going through the whole squad and make a decision on who should stay next year and who should go.

If Manchester City wins, Brighton will end their Premier League campaign in 17th place with 36 points. Brighton have done well in previous years during transfer windows but in the last summer, many underperforming players were acquired.

The second part of the season has been particularly disappointing for Brighton with fans that said they would rather see them in the Championship. After all the point against Arsenal came when Brighton’s players had their pressure released by the mathematical safety. This goes a long way in proving that lots of current Brighton’s players are not able to deal well with pressure.

After Crystal Palace managed to defeat Cardiff Chris Houghton said that he celebrated with a nice glass of wine. He said that the most important thing was that they were all together until the final outcome. He also added that it was a big relief and that he was pleased that players didn’t take the day off at the Emirates.

Showing the commitment means the team is heading in the right direction and he was pleased players avoided the temptation of taking a day off at the Emirates. Houghton said that in defence they have been much better recently even though they are still short of getting the goals they need.

Surely those fans that said that there was ‘nothing to celebrate’ about the club achieving the survival might need to reflect that the likes of Liverpool and Manchester City will still be travelling to Brighton and Hove in the next campaign. The summer will give the club a great opportunity for reviewing and improve the squad. That process would have been a lot less fun for sure if Brighton had been relegated into the Championship.
