Eight Brighton players in the FIFA World Cup

Brighton and Hove Albion have slowly but surely earned a place in the Premier League in their own right.

After gaining promotion to the English top tier in 2017, Brighton has worked hard to establish itself as a force to be reckoned with.

Over the last few seasons, it has been clear that this team is no longer content with just staying afloat in one of Europe’s toughest leagues.

With manager Graham Potter at the helm, Brighton has developed into a side capable of taking on even the big clubs. The Seagulls now boast an impressive squad full of talented players ready to take on any opponent they face.

Eight talented players have been called up to represent their countries in the Qatar 2022 World Cup. Below we analyze who these players are and how well their teams have done in the most important soccer tournament.

Leandro Trossard (Belgium)

Belgium entered this World Cup as one of the favourites to reach the final due to their impressive performance in the last World Cup in Russia in 2018. Belgium reached the semi finals beating rivals of the stature of Brazil and England.

The Red Devils surprised everyone with their spectacular game and skilful players, who are considered some of the best players in Europe.

Trossard does not have a leading role in the Belgian team due to the large number of high-quality players the team has. For example, in the defeat of his team against Morocco, Trossard entered the second half, but he barely touched the ball once.

However, at Brighton, the player is a key player this season, scoring seven league goals and providing two assists.

Unfortunately, the Belgian team did not live up to expectations and failed to advance from the group stage.

Robert Sánchez (Spain)
Sánchez moved to England to sign for Brighton & Hove Albion at the age of 15, and this season the player has enjoyed good performances with the club, such as keeping a clean sheet in the 4–0 win over Manchester United on May 7, 2022.

But unfortunately, in Spain’s national team, Sánchez has the role of a substitute and did not see action during the tournament.

Spain debuted in the World Cup with a resounding victory against Costa Rica 7-0 and would qualify for the round of 16, where Morocco would eliminate them.

Kaoru Mitoma (Japan)
The Japanese national team has been increasingly successful in the World Cup tournaments over the last few years, with their teamwork and discipline allowing them to reach a high level of performance.

Mitoma is a bench player at Brighton, but in the World Cup, he played a leading role by giving the controversial assist that would give Japan the winning goal against Spain and allow them to qualify first in the group.

Despite the outstanding performance of the Japanese team, they failed to overcome Croatia on penalties. In fact, Mitoma missed his shot in the penalty round.

Moisés Caicedo (Ecuador)
Caicedo has captured the eyes of the world with his incredible performance in the World Cup. “A player that I have seen and been surprised? The one from Ecuador, Moisés Caicedo,” answered Pedri in an interview with the YouTuber Xbuyer.

Thanks to Moisés Caicedo’s goal against Senegal, the midfielder became the youngest player from Ecuador to score in a World Cup.

Jeremy Sarmiento (Ecuador)
It has been a fundamental part of the Ecuadorian soccer team since 2021. Sarmiento signed for the Premier League’s Brighton & Hove Albion youth academy on July 2, 2021.

He made his professional debut on September 22 of that year. Sarmiento is a bench player at the club, but he is always ready for action.

Pervis Estupinan (Ecuador)
He is an indisputable starter in the scheme of DT Gustavo Alfaro. In his first World Cup game, Pervis made 87 touches, ten recoveries, three tackles, and three clearances, and he hit 80% of his passes.

The player arrived at Brighton on August 16, 2022, in a transfer for 18 million euros plus five in variables and a contract for five seasons.

Tariq Lamptey (Ghana)
Lamptey is a versatile player capable of playing right wing-back or right-back. On January 31, 2020, Lamptey signed for Brighton on a three-and-a-half-year contract; since then, he has made 59 appearances for the team and scored one goal.

Ghana exited the World Cup at the group stage after a disappointing 2-0 defeat to Uruguay. But Lamptey was grateful for the support received and wrote on Twitter, “I thank God for this moment and the opportunity we have been given; we would have liked things to have turned out differently, but God’s timing is best. We’ll use this as more motivation and work even harder.”

Alexis Mac Allister (Argentina)
Mac Allister has been playing with the Argentine national team since 2019. On January 21, 2019, Brighton signed him, but it was not until 2020 that the club got him the job permit that allowed him to move to England.

He has made 77 appearances for the Seagulls and scored 11 goals. In this world cup, he scored a goal against Poland.

Argentina is one of the favourites to win the tournament. If you have not yet placed your bets, you can review the Pennsylvania Betting Sites offering incredible promotions and an excellent betting experience.
