Mac Allister joins club of 21 Premier League World Cup winners

The 2022 World Cup in Qatar is over and day-by-day we are getting close to the return of the Premier League and English football.

With his achievement in helping Argentina to become champions, Alexis Mac Allister joined a small group of Premier League players to have won a World Cup.

Mac Allister became the first ever Brighton player, making a dream come true for him and Seagulls fans everywhere. The dream of Lionel Messi also came true as he finally won the trophy missing from his collection and ended Argentina’s 36 year curse.

Obviously, the Paris Saint-Germain superstar emerged as the top player of the tournament. But he was not alone. Rodridgo De Paul and Julian Alvarez were worthy supporters and Emi Martinez and Mac Allister himself also played key roles.

Mac Allister of Brighton, Martinez of Aston Villa, Alvarez of Manchester City and Tottenham Hotspur’s Cristian raised the flag of the Premier League high in Qatar.

The aforementioned four took the number of English top flight players since 1998 to have lifted World Cups to 21 from nine different clubs.

Arsenal lead the way with six of the 21 having been Gunners when they became a world champion. Three were part of the Germany squad who won the World Cup in Brazil 2014, since when no Arsenal player has triumphed.

The Gunners are followed by Chelsea with four and Manchester United, City, Liverpool and Tottenham with two. Three more teams complete the list with one player each.

Villa and Brighton won this year with Argentina. The other club comes as a total surprise… Middlesbrough! Juninho was a Boro player in 2002 when Brazil won in Japan & Korea. He went from helping Ronaldo and co to playing with Massimo Macarone.
