Pascal Gross signs new Brighton contract

Pascal Gross has signed a new contract with Brighton and Hove Albion, tying him to the club until the summer of 2022.

The Albion’s Player of the Season, who given his choice of clothing when penning the new contract appears to have take up a summer job as a lumberjack, registered seven goals and eight assists in his first season in English football.

That led many pundits to describe him as one of the signings of last summer, given that he cost just £3m from German side Ingolstadt.

Remarkably given the way he has taken to English football like a duck to water, the only rumoured interests in his services have been a return to Germany with Red Bull Leipzig. Should genuine interest now come in this summer, the Albion’s bargain hand will be much strengthened thanks to the one year extension to the four year deal he arrive on a year ago.

At 26 years of age, it means that Gross will be hitting his peak years with the Albion having already become a firm fans favourite as evidenced by the fact that he was voted both the clubs official Player of the Season and our WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Season.

Gross began his career with Hoffenheim and has also played for Karlsruher as well as Ingolstadt in his home country. He was capped by Germany at under 18 and under 19 level but you’d have to consider his chances of a full call up for Die Mannschaft slim given that they have left Mario Gotze, Leroy Sane and Andre Schurrle at home for this summers World Cup in Russia.
