Rearranged games give Brighton seven fixtures in April

Hold onto your hats people – Brighton and Hove Albion are set to cram seven games into four weeks of the penultimate month of the 2018-19 season.

Three rearranged games will now take place on midweek dates throughout April, with the visits to top four chasers Chelsea and Tottenham Hotspur confirmed as well as when Neil Warnock will bring his struggling Cardiff City side to the Amex.

The trip to Stamford Bridge will now take place on Wednesday 3rd April with a 7.45pm kick off. The original tie had been due to take place on Sunday 24th February but had to be moved due to Chelsea’s involvement in the Carabao Cup Final.

You may recall that despite not knowing what date the fixture would be rescheduled for, the Albion decided to start selling tickets for the game anyway, before rather brilliantly having to refund everybody due to the chaos that would have ensued had those who purchased not been able to make the new date.

Those who did buy tickets in that first cocked up sale will have first option this time around again, with any remaining unsold seats going on sale this Thursday – yes, the same day as tickets for the Albion’s FA Cup Semi Final with Manchester City become available. I think we can all see what’s going to happen to the website come 9am.

Cardiff will then visit on Tuesday 16th at 7.45pm, a game that could yet prove pivotal to both sides hopes of avoiding relegation to the Championship. The euphoria of Sunday’s FA Cup penalty shoot out win over Millwall and victories over Crystal Palace and Huddersfield Town seems to have made everybody forget that we’re still not actually mathematically safe and home defeats to Southampton and Plucky Little Bournemouth prior the Bluebirds’ visit could make the game a huge six pointer. The original fixture had been scheduled for FA Cup Quarter Final day.

A week on from Cardiff and the Albion will travel to Tottenham Hotspur to take on Spurs at their Stadium on Tuesday 23rd April. That game will be broadcast live on Sky Sports and it will be the fourth to take place at the new ground, which unfortunately no longer features an artisan cheese room. Whether the temperature controlled display vault where members can store their favourite wines, cognacs and liquors still exists remains unknown.

Brighton’s other games in the month come against City at Wembley, the aforementioned home game with Bournemouth, a trip to Wolverhampton Wanderers and the visit of Newcastle United to Sussex which will also be broadcast live on the evening of Saturday 27th April.

The packed fixture list will no doubt evoke memories of when Gus Poyet’s Albion played eight times in a mental March back in the 2010-11 season. Remarkably, they won every single game to rack up 24 points that all but secured the League One title in one of the most sensational months in Brighton history.

Seven wins out of seven wouldn’t be bad this time around either, would it? No pressure, Chris…
