Ryan and Duffy nominated for PFA Player of the Month

It could be awards galore for Brighton and Hove Albion in October with Maty Ryan and Shane Duffy now also nominated for the PFA Bristol Street Motors Player of the Month.

Ryan has already been shortlisted for the Premier League’s EA Sports Player of the Month while Chris Hughton is also up Manager of the Month. Those are the official Premier League awards in which 10% of the votes cast come from supporters.

The PFA Awards are 100% fan voted with Ryan and Duffy up against Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang, Chelsea’s Ross Barkley, Fernandinho of Manchester City and Manchester United’s Anthony Martial.

Both players helped the Albion keep three clean sheets throughout October which paved the way for the only 100% record in the division in the month.

Ryan’s main heroics came in the 1-0 home win over Wolverhampton Wanderers, three brilliant second half saves in particular almost single-handedly earning the three points against an impressive Wolves outfit.

He also excelled in the victory over Newcastle United when Brighton found themselves under considerable pressure. It’s come as no surprise to anyone to see him linked with a possible move to Manchester United should David De Gea leave Old Trafford for Juventus as is being rumoured.

Duffy meanwhile has been impervious form all season but only now seems to be getting the plaudits he deserves. He was voted our WeAreBrighton.com Player of the Month for August and also broke the record for most international caps won whilst playing for Brighton after representing the Republic of Ireland 16 times while an Albion player.

His best game of the month came in the win at St James’ Park, where he made a remarkable 19 clearances to help preserve a well-earned clean sheet. Duffy is yet to be linked with a move to a bigger club yet, but when we spoke to Everton fan site Come on You Blues ahead of the weekends game at Goodison Park, they were very keen to know how their former player was getting on. Clearly, his form isn’t going unnoticed.

This is the first time since the Albion’s promotion to the Premier League that we’ve had a player nominated for a PFA Player of the Month Award, let alone two in the same month. Coming up against some of the biggest names from the biggest clubs in the world, they’ll need all the help they can get.
