The Bruno Mural is coming back to Brighton

Hands up, who misses the Bruno Mural? El Capitan spent nearly two years pained on the side of Gusto Gallato in the North Laines until he was unceremoniously removed in order for some nobody to promote an album that sold approximately six copies.

From the moment that Bruno was painted over, there have been various campaigns to bring him back. We started one of our own, although it admittedly didn’t progress beyond the planning stages. Perhaps wanting him painted on the side of the Royal Pavilion, Buckingham Palace or the Taj Mahal was a little too ambitious.

Now though it appears that moves are afoot to properly replace Bruno. Award winning stag weekend organisers The Stag Company have launched a campaign to find a design for a new Bruno mural, which will then be pointed on a prominent wall in the city owned by the company’s CEO and a long-standing Albion fan, Rob Hill.

“I was deeply upset when the mural was taken down,” Rob explains. “Bruno is a Brighton and Hove Albion legend and is one of the best players to have ever graced the blue and white stripes.”

“He played over 200 games for Brighton, was a great captain and leader and deserves to be recognised for everything he has done for the club and the city.”

Albion fans are therefore being asked to submit designs for the new mural via The Stag Company’s website. A shortlist will be produced with a public vote deciding the final design, which will then be painted by Brighton’s renowned graffiti artist Glimmertwin.

Bruno himself is behind the campaign, saying, “I am very proud that so many fans want to commemorate my time at Brighton and I can only repeat what I said to them when I retired – once a seagull, always a seagull.”

To enter your design in the competition, please head on over to the Bring Bruno Back campaign page. Entries must be received by October 31st.
