Burnley 1-1 Brighton: Igor shines from bench in player ratings

Burnley 1-1 Brighton was far from a classic as the Albion had to rely on a comical own goal to secure a point at Turf Moor and that is represented in another low scoring set of player ratings.

Only Igor Julio and Pascal Gross achieved a score of seven or above. Gross showed a welcome return to form after several below part performances compared to his normal high standards.

Igor meanwhile was an early introduction after Pervis Estupinan departed the action early. The Albion defence looked a little tighter with the Brazilian on the pitch after the Clarets had dominated the opening exchanges.

Here are your Burnley 1-1 Brighton player ratings.

Bart Verbruggen – 6.50
Another decent game. Not much he could do about the Burnley goal as he was sold short by a terrible back pass from Carlos Baleba.

Joel Veltman – 5.83
Not his best game as the Clarets looked a real threat all afternoon from wide positions, in terms of one winger crossing deep into the box and the other arriving at the far post often unchecked. The most glaring example coming when Jacob Bruun Larsen escaped Veltman, only to somehow miss from three yards out.

Jan Paul van Hecke – 6.50
Brighton were better defensively through the middle thanks to the efforts of Van Hecke and Lewis Dunk. The Clarets had done their homework on the Dutch defender and did a decent job in preventing him coming out of the back line in possession.

Lewis Dunk – 6.17
See above.

Pervis Estupinan – 5.33
Lasted only 13 minutes before being withdrawn with an ankle injury. Estupinan was given a torrid time by Wilson Odobert whilst on the pitch, including being fortunate not to concede an early penalty after a clumsy challenge similar to the spot kick Tariq Lamptey gave away against Arsenal a week earlier.

Pascal Gross – 7.00
Gross was involved in the few clear scoring chances Brighton managed to create. If this is a sign that Der Kaiser is finding his form again, that can only be good news for the Albion going into the final six games of the campaign.

Carlos Baleba – 6.17
A pretty good performance ruined by his under hit attempt to pass back to Verbruggen gifting Burnley their goal. The potential is clearly there but he still has a lot to learn.

Simon Adingra – 5.67
Started relatively well but faded as the game progressed. He looks like he needs a rest but with no other natural right wingers in the squad, that is unlikely to happen.

Jakub Moder – 6.83
One of his better performances of the season. Came as close as any Brighton player to scoring when his bending free kick found a gap in the wall to force Arijanet Muric into a good first half save at full stretch.

Joao Pedro – 6.67
Has never looked comfortable playing wide this season and that theme continued at Turf Moor. Had a couple of sights goal but never really tested Muric. Pedro did though almost succeed in an attempt to set a new Guinness World Record for most unnecessary drag backs in a 10 second period when he should have pulled the trigger to get a shot away.

Danny Welbeck – 5.83
Not only did Burnley stifle Van Hecke creating from centre back but they also marshalled Welbeck relatively well. Won the free kick taken by Moder; other than that struggled to have an impact.

IGOR JULIO – 7.17
Igor! Igor! Igor! Helped nullify Odobert after replacing Estupinan and that was enough to take him to the top of the Burnley 1-1 Brighton player ratings.

Adam Lallana – 5.17
Part of a triple change along with Ansu Fati and Facundo Buonanotte in immediate response to the Clarets taking the lead. Brighton did equalise shortly after, but that had little to do with the substitutes as Muric allowed a back pass from Sander Berge to roll under his heel with no Albion player within 30 yards of the Burnley goal.

Ansu Fati – 5.33
Roberto De Zerbi has aired concerns about Fati’s fitness in recent weeks and that resulted in Pedro being preferred out-of-position on the left ahead of the Barcelona loan man. Needs to offer something more if his season stay at the Amex is to be considered a success.

Facundo Buonanotte – 5.83
The most lively of the three substitutes introduced in De Zerbi’s triple change. He gave Muric something to think about when challenging for a loose ball late on.
